HomeMy WebLinkAboutFleet Use of Vehicles Policy This policy shall be adhered to for the use of all Municipal vehicles and equipment. 1. All vehicles shall be identified as Municipal Vehicles by decals and unit numbers except some Police Vehicles, at the discretion of the Chief of Police. 2. All vehicles shall be operated by suitably trained employees holding valid driver's licenses for the class of vehicle to be operated. 3. It is the responsibility of the operator to report any mechanical deficiencies to their Supervisor. Pre and post trip inspections are mandatory. 4. Responsibility for development and implementation of pre and post trip inspections and reporting rest with the Manager of Fleet. An accident reporting and referral procedure will also be prepared. Violations will be reported to the appropriate Department Head for corrective action. 5. No equipment is to be used to perform work on property not owned by the Municipality except with permission of the appropriate Manager. This permission may be granted only where the work is necessary and for the direct benefit of the Municipality. 6. No vehicle is to be left running while unattended. 7. No vehicles are to be taken to staff members' private residences after hours except as follows: a) An employee who is on call as per call out procedures may be permitted to take a vehicle home at the discretion of the appropriate Manager. In no case is a Municipal vehicle to be used for any private use, or to transport passengers who are not municipal employees. b) It is recognized that a variety of community based organizations provide service for the public good. At the discretion of the Manager, permission may be granted for employees to use municipal equipment to provide some service to these groups. This would be for occasional use only and only where the employee volunteers his/her time. Such things as trucks for haulage of material, grading of parking lots, use of Municipal vehicles in parades, etc. are covered. Absolutely no materials to be provided. c) Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action. Approved by CBRM Council on the 20th day of February, 1996. Amended by CBRM Council: March 17, 2005
