The Cape Breton Regional Municipality may pay membership fees to certain
organizations on a corporate or individual basis.
Council may authorize, usually through the annual budget exercise, corporate
membership in organizations deemed of benefit to CBRM.
Council may authorize, usually through the annual Budget exercise, paid membership
for a Council member in a profession relevant to the job of Mayor and/or Councillor.
CAG/Directors may authorize CBRM paid membership providing any of the following
criteria are met:
1. The membership is in a profession relevant to the job
position he/she holds in CBRM; obtained through
examination and/or professional standing associated with
education qualifications such as C.A., P.Eng., MCIP or
C.G.A, or LLB.
2. The organization provides literature relevant to the job
description of the incumbent.
3. The organization provides interpersonal relationships
appropriate to the job discipline.
4. The organization provides valued input to topical subjects
that affect the short or long term operations of the business
unit.
5. Membership in the organization is seen as advantageous
for corporate marketing and/or business development
purposes.
CAG/Directors shall authorize paid membership where membership is a job requirement,
as stipulated in collective agreements and/or conditions of employment.
Where membership in one organization requires a second membership in a larger
organization (as a condition of membership), the two memberships shall be treated as
one application.
