Non-Smoking
Policy Objective
To promote a safe and healthy working environment free, to the extent possible of tobacco smoke
and to aid employees in quitting smoking.
Policy Statement
CBRM values its employees and is committed to providing a work environment that is safe and
healthy.
Medical evidence has shown that smoking is harmful to the health of smokers. It is also an irritant
to non-smokers and evidence has shown that long-term exposure to secondhand smoke may
seriously threaten the health of non-smokers. Therefore, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality is
committed to ensuring its employees are not exposed to tobacco smoke in the workplace.
The Cape Breton Regional Municipality prohibits smoking in all its workplaces as defined in this
policy.
